Khulisa compiled Case Studies of 32 OVC programmes in South Africa supported by PEPFAR/South Africa. This research effort, which used Appreciative Inquiry as one of the main data collection methodologies, involved identifying the best characteristics in the programmes. Each case study report described the programme model for each organisation, including a depiction of key programme activities, methods of beneficiary selection, services delivered, unmet needs and approaches to working with the community. Programme innovations, successful resolution of challenges and lessons learned were detailed.
Following the production of the 32 individual case studies, Khulisa produced a summary report which identified the best practices across the group so that these could be considered by other OVC initiatives. The purpose of this research was to provide the U.S. Government, its programme managers, and partners with in-depth information on characteristics of effective OVC models and interventions in South Africa, so as to guide future allocation decisions and to inform policy decisions.
