July 18th, Nelson Mandela’s birthday, was officially pronounced Nelson Mandela International Day by the United Nations General Assembly in 2009. Following the example of South Africa’s first democratically elected president, who devoted his life to his country, people around South Africa band together on July 18th to donate time and resources to their local communities.
This year, Khulisa staff members are recognizing Nelson Mandela Day in their own, individual ways. Organizations that our team is supporting include Little Libraries, an initiative to provide books and stationery to children in underprivileged areas in South Africa, and Acres of Love, which provides family care to orphaned and abandoned South African children.
Happy birthday, President Mandela. The Khulisa staff in South Africa, and around the world, will continue to honor your legacy as best we can – today and every other day of the year.
