Khulisa Management Services, in partnership with LASER PULSE Purdue University, the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), conducted a national Trafficking in Persons (TIP) study between 2020 and early 2022. The goal of the study was to provide evidence on the nature and magnitude of TIP in South Africa to policy makers in the Government of South Africa (GOSA) and to development partners, implementing partners, and service providers.

Khulisa and its partners presented the findings from this study to the National Intersectoral Committee on Trafficking in Persons (NICTIP) in November 2022. The first of three evidence briefs has now been published. You can read the latest policy brief, “Strengthen trafficking in persons policy implementation efforts”, below.

This brief highlights data from prosecuted human trafficking cases in South Africa to understand the breadth of the TIP problem, and reviews what the current response is from the South African government to combat human trafficking.
