We recently published a blog post about the resilience study Khulisa conducted as part of the German Development Corporation (GIZ) Employment and Skills for Development (E4D) program in South Africa. Khulisa evaluated the resiliency of SaveAct savings groups during the COVID-19 lockdowns. Learn more about the resilience study in the fact sheet below:

Khulisa evaluator Wendy Dube, who conducted much of the in-person data collection for the resilience study, noted the importance observing local cultural norms.

“In terms of making the participants feel comfortable, we asked the SaveAct facilitators which language the participants/groups would prefer to conduct the interviews in,” said Wendy, who conducted the interviews in isiZulu. “I also think that contextual awareness helped – an outfit worn for data collection can influence how people interact with you. Being dressed in an appropriate way for the area helped the participants to be more comfortable.”
