Khulisa is currently in its second year of the Scaling Up Nutrition Learning & Evaluation (SUN LE) Project in Zambia. One key deliverable in Year 2 is to conduct performance assessments (PAs) in the 30 priority districts.

The PAs will provide an independent, objective, comparable assessment of necessary core systems, structures, and capacity or delivery of the Zambia SUN programme – including governance, management, coordination, implementation, workforce, and service delivery.  In addition to improving transparency and accountability, the PAs will help identify gaps in core systems, structures, and capacity that should form the basis for improved implementation.

Over the past few weeks, thirty performance assessors have been recruited, trained and deployed by SUN LE’s Lusaka office, with the assistance of two senior consultants. Assessors are organized into six teams of five assessors each, including one field supervisor. The two senior assessors provide daily support to the teams and conduct daily quality control of collected data. Daily contact with field supervisors and weekly virtual meetings with all six teams make making it possible to identify and address fieldwork issues as they arise.  Data collection will continue until mid-September.
